Inaugurated in 2010 in the Sully wing of the Musée du Louvre, the ceiling painted by the Artist Cy Twombly and entitled The Ceiling was subject to a dispute between the Musée du Louvre and the Cy Twombly Foundation, which arose from the recent renovation of the room’s decor.
The Musée du Louvre and the Cy Twombly Foundation are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement that will allow the presentation of one of the major works by the great contemporary artist Cy Twombly in a harmonious and coherent setting. The parties have agreed to change the color of the room walls, wood panels, and display cases to lighter colors. Work will be done in the room to carry out the modifications.
As a result of the agreement, the Cy Twombly Foundation has withdrawn the proceedings that it initiated. The Cy Twombly Foundation and the Musée du Louvre are pleased at this outcome, which will allow the public to once again experience The Ceiling as the Artist designed it.
