Marvel Studios’ ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings’ Debuts At No. 1 with $132.3 Million Globally

Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings opened as the No. 1 movie globally and at No. 1 in all key international markets, delivering an estimated $132.3 million.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings blew away all expectations domestically, delivering an estimated $75.5 million three-day ($93 million+ four-day) to become the second highest opening of the past year, only below Black Widow’s $80 million. The film also set the record for the highest Labor Day weekend opening by a considerable margin.

The film opened No. 1 in all key markets to $56.8 million with all regions over-performing versus pre-release expectations. The film garnered several notable achievements in its opening weekend, including:

  • Highest opening 3-day weekend during the pandemic era in the U.K.
  • Highest opening weekend during the pandemic era in Kuwait, Iceland, Chile and Peru
  • Highest ever September industry opening weekend in Hong Kong

Critical response and audience ratings for the film have been exceptional, with a 92% Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes critics score with a 98% verified audience rating; an “A” CinemaScore; and 5/5 stars from PostTrak polling from general audiences and parents.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Awkwafina as Katy, with Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan and Tony Leung as Xu Wenwu, as well as Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Yuen Wah, Ronny Chieng, Zach Cherry and Dallas Liu.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Charles Newirth serving as executive producers. Dave Callaham & Cretton & Andrew Lanham wrote the screenplay for the film, and the screen story is by Callaham & Cretton.
