After almost a year since they stepped down from their royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have an exclusive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Criticisms & Allegations
In a preview of the two-hour interview, Meghan accused the British Royal Family of “perpetuating falsehoods about us”. Prior to the airing of interview, Meghan was accused of bullying her former royal aides during her time at the Kensington Palace. The Buckhingham Palace has issued a rare public response saying that it was “clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times,” and that its human resources team “will look into the circumstances outlined in the article.” The couple’s interview was filmed two weeks before the accusations of bullying went public.
Some people were quick to point out that Prince Andrew who is still facing questions from the FBI about his association with convicted sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein, did not receive any investigations from the Palace.
Critics have also commented on the timing of the interview as Prince Harry’s grandfather, the 99-year old Prince Philip has been hospitalized and underwent surgery for a preexisting heart condition.
Prince Harry remarked that his “biggest concern was history repeating itself”, drawing parallels with his late mother Diana, the Princess of Wales. His parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a tumultuos relationship which ending in a very publicized divorce. A year later, Princess Diana died in a car crash after being hounded by paparazzi’s. This left a lasting impact on Harry who was only 12 years old at that time.
Harry also had an interview with James Corden ahead of the Oprah exclusive. In the interview, Harry described his family’s new life in California and the challenges they faced when they decided to leave the Royal Family in Britain. He also accused the press of “destroying his mental health”.
Privacy Concerns
In the Corden interview, Harry emphasized that, “It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down.” Since the couple announced the decision to “step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family”, they have been misinterpreted as wanting to be become private citizens. According to their official statements, Harry and Meghan intention was to create new roles for themselves “within” the institution, while continuing to perform some official duties.
