JoJo Siwa’s friendship with Chris Hughes continues to extend far beyond the Celebrity Big Brother UK house.
“We still speak all the time, obviously, naturally,” Siwa, 21, exclusively shared with Us Weekly for a digital cover story. “Now to be out of the house, we just exist, and it is what it is. We’re happy, and we have each other. It’s a great little special friendship that we have.”
On April 7, Siwa and Hughes, 32, entered the Celebrity Big Brother UK house as total strangers. In just a few short days, the pair became dear friends and captivated audiences with their dance parties and close bond.

When the show wrapped later in the month, Siwa was initially surprised that her relationship with Hughes — who is a former Love Island UK contestant — grabbed the attention of so many people. After watching snippets of the series, however, the Dance Moms alum has a better understanding as to why.

“Being on the outside of the house, I am the No. 1 JoJo and Chris stan,” she told Us. “I see all the edits and I’m like, ‘I wanna see more dancing. I wanna see more of what’s happening.’ I am the scroller on TikTok now. I understand why the people are enjoying it.”

Some viewers even speculated that the pair could be more than just friends. While on the show, Siwa identified herself as queer. In addition, the “Karma” singer split from partner Kath Ebbs after the season.
Siwa, however, has maintained her friendship with Hughes is platonic and is not the cause of her recent breakup.
“I think what’s so special about Chris and I is our bond is so genuine that neither of us care what people make of it because we know our genuine friendship,” Siwa told Us. “We know our bond.”

Since wrapping up filming, Siwa has been hard at work finalizing new music. Her new song “Bulletproof” comes out Friday, May 16, before she embarks on the Live With JoJo Tour in July.

As she moves on to her next big project, Siwa remains grateful that she had the opportunity to meet Hughes in a unique environment.
After all, she explained, it’s not every day when you find a “friendship soulmate” – especially on reality TV.
“You can’t explain it. It just is kind of there,” Siwa explained about her bond with Hughes. “I’ve had it in a few different ways and every person that’s come into my life in that way, it’s a different bond. It’s a different relationship.”
