On one of the biggest days of their lives, Kelly Stafford gave a warning to NFL prospects about bringing their girlfriends to the Draft.
“I’m going to give you my honest opinion right now, I don’t see why guys do it,” Stafford, 35, said on the Thursday, April 24, episode of her “The Morning After” podcast. “Because if they do get drafted and you have all your family and you’re in the Draft and you have your girlfriend is in the Draft [pictures] — and then all of a sudden, girlfriend’s gone — you don’t have Draft pictures without a random girl.”
She continued, “I know she’s not random when you’re taking it, but she might be random eventually. It’s a serious thing to consider. It’s like having your brother’s girlfriend in your wedding when they’re not engaged. And then all of a sudden you have all these photos with your family and the brother’s girlfriend.”

Stafford included her brother Chad Hall’s then-girlfriend, Rose, as a bridesmaid in her 2015 wedding to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. “[Chad] got married to Rose, so we were good,” she explained.

“But what happens if Rose didn’t marry Chad?” Kelly asked. “And then she’s in all my wedding photos?”

Matthew, 37, was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2009 NFL Draft. Though he and Kelly were dating at the time after having met at the University of Georgia, Kelly didn’t attend the event with Matthew and his family.
“I didn’t really understand the Draft situation when he was going through it,” Kelly admitted on the podcast. “But then as I get older and I have daughters, I kind of understand. He’s smart, Matthew’s smart. He didn’t know!”
The couple married six years later and have since welcomed four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4.
Kelly and Matthew celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in April, but Kelly recently admitted that things haven’t always been a walk in the park.

“Marriage is f***ing hard,” she said on the April 3 episode of her podcast. “Anyone who tells you differently is f***ing lying through their teeth.”
Prior to tying the knot, Kelly said “you put yourself first all the time.”
“Now all of a sudden, you’re putting someone else first,” she added. “There’s kids involved. It just becomes tougher and tougher with the more things thrown your way.”
The 2025 NFL Draft airs Thursday, April 24, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network.
