Rom-coms are plentiful on Amazon, including several Prime Video originals that cater to romantic comedy fans.
However, the vast majority of rom-coms on Prime Video have truly awful reviews and they aren’t the best examples of the genre.
Thankfully, Prime Video’s library of movies is so deep that some of the best rom-coms ever made have a streaming home there.

Rom-com veteran Nancy Meyers wrote and directed It’s Complicated, which features Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin as a former married couple, Jane and Jake Adler. A decade after separating, Jake and Jane begin having an affair despite the former being married to a much younger woman named Agness (Lake Bell).
There’s a lot of history between Jane and Jake, including three grown kids. But any thoughts of getting back together permanently are complicated by his marriage and her romantic feelings for Adam Schaffer (Steve Martin), an architect with whom she works.

Cher won an Oscar for Best Actress for her turn as Loretta Castorini in Moonstruck, which was also the film that elevated Nicolas Cage as a leading man. It’s a rom-com set in Brooklyn about two lonely souls who first can’t stand each other and then fall in love. Sound familiar?
Loretta is a widowed woman who dares to look for love again with Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello). As a favor to Johnny, Loretta agrees to invite his estranged brother, Ronny (Cage), to their wedding. The emotional gap between the brothers may be too far to mend, and it won’t be any easier when Loretta cheats on Johnny with Ronny. Loretta may not have a way to go forward without breaking someone’s heart.

As promised by the title, Four Weddings and a Funeral, all of those events are seen in the film. This rom-com largely unfolds through the perspective of a British man named Charles (Hugh Grant) and his American acquaintance, Carrie (Andie MacDowell).
Over the years, Charles and Carrie keep running into each other at weddings, including their own ceremonies with other partners. But there’s such an undeniable chemistry between them that both Carrie and Charles have to wonder whether they missed an opportunity to be together as a real couple.

Annie Hall is widely considered one of the greatest rom-coms that Woody Allen ever made. We won’t argue with that claim as the film, which won Best Picture at the Oscars in 1978, still holds up after all these years.
Allen directed, wrote and starred in the film as Alvy Singer, a neurotic comedian who is desperately in love with the title character, Annie (Diane Keaton). Alvy has a few fatal flaws as a lover, including an inability to stop re-examining his past relationships. He and Annie have good times and bad, but the harder Alvy tries to hold on to her, she pulls further and further away.

D. B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly bring a smoldering romantic heat to the ice in The Cutting Edge, a cult classic sports rom-com that wasn’t fully appreciated at the time of its release. In 1988, the Olympic dreams of figure skater Kate Moseley (Kelly) and hockey player Doug Dorsey (Sweeney) are dashed one after the other.
Years later, Doug is recruited to be Kate’s new figure skating partner in her bid to qualify for the 1992 Winter Olympics. Their initial attempts to work together are like mixing oil and water. But once Kate and Doug get on the same page, the sparks fly on and off the ice.
