The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards $50,000 following an incident in his team’s NBA Playoffs Game 1 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, April 19.
The incident occurred in the third quarter as Edwards, 23, was preparing to check into the game. A fan in the crowd appeared to be heckling Rudy Gobert, prompting Edwards to shout back in defense of his teammate.
The Minnesota guard then grabbed his groin and made a lewd comment to the fan, captured on camera.

The resulting fine brought Edwards’ yearlong total to $380,000 as the former Georgia Bulldog has developed a history of cursing during postgame interviews, criticizing officials and earning technical fouls.
He received a one-game suspension in February when he picked up his 16th technical of the season, which is in line with NBA rules. He was almost suspended again at the end of the regular season when he picked up his 18th, but the league later rescinded the tech.
Edwards didn’t seem to let the exchange affect him as he finished the game with a near triple-double (22 points, nine assists, eight rebounds).
The Timberwolves’ playoff run — and Edwards’ latest controversy — comes while he is dealing with a paternity suit off the court. He and ex Ayesha Howard welcomed daughter Aubri Summers in October 2024.

Edwards filed a paternity suit that same month, asking for a DNA test using a “neutral and licensed laboratory.” He added that he was “not seeking child custody or visitation of Aubri” and claimed “the only issues to be resolved [were] financial in nature,” according to court documents.
Documents obtained by Us Weekly in March revealed that Edwards had been biologically proven to be Aubri’s father. Howard was granted temporary sole and legal custody of Aubri earlier in April, while Edwards has requested a hearing in Georgia to establish his child support obligations.
Howard’s lawyer said in March that she required the child support agreement because she is “currently unemployed and [relying] on savings, family support and any support that Edwards provides to maintain the needs and care for the minor child.”
Howard is also seeking reimbursement for her attorney fees and for the “actual costs incurred for her pregnancy, birth and expenses incurred after the child’s birth.” (Howard also shares a son with rapper Lil Baby.)
The Lakers evened up the series at one game apiece with a win on Tuesday. Game 3 is scheduled for Friday night in Minnesota.
