Influencer Adelaine Morin Defends Spending $1K on Dinner at Coachella

Influencer Adelaine Morin is responding to criticism after admitting that she spent $1,000 on dinner while attending Coachella.

In a TikTok video posted on Tuesday, April 15, Morin, 27, shared her experience about going to the Nobu pop-up restaurant on the festival grounds.

“Would you ever spend $1,000 for dinner at Coachella? I think I found the most expensive place to have dinner in the festival,” the social media star told her 1.1 million followers in a voice-over. “There were absolutely no walk-ins. It was reservation only.”

Morin explained that she was “so dumb” and accidentally booked her reservation for weekend 2 — but she was able to work it out with the restaurant during the festival’s first weekend.

“You have to pay it in full and there’s no refunds,” she added, before noting that the pop-up had a set Omakase menu. “It’s $350 a person plus 22 percent included gratuity. Also, if you show up late, they’ll give you a bento box to-go and you can’t even eat here.”

While it may be pricey, Morin shared that she believed it was a “once in a lifetime experience because you can have a Michelin star dinner” with a stage “just across from you.”

“If you timed your reservation right, you can literally be eating Nobu while Tiesto was playing,” she gushed. “You guys know me, I’ll cheap out on certain things and ball out on others, and this I don’t regret a bit. It was such a fun experience and you can watch them make the sushi right in front you.”

Morin added that “sometimes getting Omakase is scary because you don’t know if you’re going to like the food,” but she thought everything was “so amazing.”

“My favorite [was] the Rock Shrimp Tempura,” she concluded the video. “This gave me enough energy for the day that we were just frolicking around Coachella. Would you ball out on this?”

Several users took to the comments section to share their opinions on Morin spending so much money on one meal — but Morin was quick to defend herself.

One user wrote, “1k at nobu at Coachella, pure dystopia,” to which Morin replied, “I thought it was fun.”

Another user responded, “Consumerism America is baffling because even if you have the money for this, why on earth will you throw it away for a dinner that you know is hella overpriced…” Morin quipped back, “Omakase is normally 250-350 at restaurants!”

When a third person commented that they would rather spend the money on a trip to Japan, Morin wrote, “Valid but Japan is getting so expensive these days 😭😭.”

Despite the criticism, some followers understood Morin’s role as a content creator. “Most of you complaining about money do not understand the difference between being ‘relatable’ and ‘creating content’ this is video is content,” read one reply, to which Morin responded, “God forbid a girl catches a vibe at a sushi restaurant and vlogs it 😂😂😭😭.”

Coachella continues with its second weekend Friday, April 18, through Sunday, April 20.
