5 Best New Shows on Netflix in April 2025
‘North of North’ (2025)
North of North is a Canadian comedy that debuted earlier this year on CBC, and now it’s available on Netflix in America. Anna Lambe leads the series as Siaja, an Inuk woman who married Ting (Kelly William) when she was too young and then got caught living the life of a housewife and mother in her small Arctic town.
Siaja wants more out of life than Ting can give her, so she takes their daughter, Bun (Keira Cooper), and moves in with her mother Neevee (Maika Harper). But it’s hard for Siaja and Neevee to make a new beginning when both of their exes remain in their lives, even when new romantic prospects appear.
North of North is streaming on Netflix.
‘Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing’ (2025)
The age of social media and influencers is still in its relative infancy, but if documentaries like Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing are any indication, there may be a lot of damaged childhoods now and in the future.
Who From YouTuber Piper Rockelle’s Squad Did — And Didn’t — Appear in Doc?
This miniseries focuses on a very young influencer, Piper Rockelle, and her mother, Tiffany Smith, who guided her daughter to social media stardom. By most accounts, Smith was very savvy and she successfully roped in additional children for Piper’s videos while earning ridiculous money.
However, the stories coming from the children who formerly worked with Smith are filled with disturbing details of alleged exploitation and even wildly inappropriate sexual remarks that she supposedly said to the kids under her watch.
This is all very disturbing if true, but it’s the kind of show you need to see to fully realize just how toxic this side of kidfluencing can be for the children themselves.

‘The Gardener’ (2025)
Finally, it’s time to take a break from the bleak glimpse of social media’s dark side and settle down for a special romance between a contract killer and the woman he was supposed to murder. Compared to the previous show on this list, The Gardener is looking pretty wholesome.
Álvaro Rico stars as the title character, Elmer, whose gift lies in taking lives rather than saving them. It’s not entirely Elmer’s fault, since his mother, La China Jurado (Cecilia Suárez), latched on to her son’s damaged mind and encouraged him to kill at her command. That’s how she made him into a professional assassin.
Violeta (Catalina Sopelana) is the one woman who could deter Elmer from murdering her simply by being who she is. After spending years cut off from real human emotions, Elmer suddenly knows what it’s like to love another person. That’s something his mother will never allow. And if Elmer won’t murder Violeta, then his mom is more than willing to pick up the slack and do it herself.
The Gardener is streaming on Netflix.
