Will Ferrell Takes Over a Plane to Announce PayPal’s $10M Checkout Sweeps

Will Ferrell has a very important announcement.

At least, that’s what the comedian tells a flight of travelers in a new ad campaign with PayPal, during which he steals the phone from a flight attendant to alert the crowd to The Great PayPal Checkout.

“Use PayPal Checkout online and you could get paid back,” Ferrell, 57, declares in the new ad, which Us Weekly can exclusively debut. “One thousand winners every day… for 100 days.”

He continues: “$10 million are up for grabs, people!”

Then, in classic Ferrell fashion, the comedian proceeds to nearly walk in on someone in the airplane bathroom.

“I love surprises. So naturally, I boarded a plane to shout about PayPal’s sweepstakes from 30,000 feet,” the Anchorman star said of the campaign, which launched on Thursday, April 10. “But don’t look away, there’s more to come next week. I might even sing again, who knows.”

The Great PayPal Checkout — which marks the company’s biggest sweepstakes ever — encourages customers to simply select PayPal Checkout online while shopping for the chance to win their cut of the $10 million total prize money.

With options to pay now or pay later, shoppers have more flexibility than ever.

“Payments are no longer an afterthought, they’re a central driver in determining how consumers shop,” said Geoff Seeley, Chief Marketing Officer at PayPal. “With millions of consumers selecting PayPal every day, we’re committed to raising the bar and delivering an incredible, safe, and rewarding experience that connects our customers to the things they want and love.”

The iconic comedian’s role in the ad comes on the heels of You’re Cordially Invited, his rom-com with Reese Witherspoon, and Will & Harper, his documentary with Harper Steele.

While he joked, “If you’re a member of the doc branch, suck it,” when asked about being snubbed for an Oscar for the doc on a The Late Show With Stephen Colbert appearance earlier this year, Ferrell called the film “one of the best things I ever got to be a part of, and I loved every second of it.”

Fans can look forward to a new comedic ad starring Ferrell, which PayPal will release next week.
