Christina Aguilera and fiancé Matthew Rutler had a fun — and rare — date night this weekend.
The duo attended the 11th annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony Saturday, April 5, in Los Angeles. Each year, attendees gather for what has been called the “Oscars of Science” to celebrate the annual event that honors scientists in math and physics. The star-studded event was also attended by Glenn Close, Gwyneth Paltrow, director Patty Jenkins and more.
The singer, who wore a corseted white Dolce & Gabbana, said on the red carpet that “it’s record time,” seemingly a hint that she’s preparing to release her 10th studio album. She released her 9th record, titled Aguilera, in 2022.
From our partners:
Aguilera, 44, and Rutler, 40, have been engaged since 2014 and appear to be in no hurry to get married. The singer announced their engagement after nearly three years of dating in a post shared on X, then known as Twitter.

“He asked and I said……” she wrote at the time, along with a picture of her sparkling new engagement ring. The pair met in 2010 on the set of Burlesque as Aguilera was working through a difficult divorce from ex-husband Jordan Bratman.
“He’s the love of my life, and I adore him,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November 2010 of her fiancé. ‘He’s such a character, and he’s so happy and at the end of the day, that’s what’s most important.”
While waiting to release new music, Aguilera looked back on the early stages of her career in August 2024. “It definitely was a time to hypersexualize the little girl playing innocent thing,” Aguilera, 43, said in an interview with Paper magazine. “I hated feeling like I had to play both sides of the coin in a way that I wasn’t comfortable with and in a way that I felt was inauthentic.”
“I’m not trying to be cutesy for nobody, I need to rough this up, whether you like it or not,” she added. “As I said, I was surrounded by a lot of older males, it was a different time. But it’s definitely an environment to this day I don’t like being around: the macho male gaze. I just can’t do it, it’s a really uncomfortable place for me to be. A lot of people can stomach that, but I’m just not that girl.”

“I was taught many lessons with [my first album], not only about myself and where I wanted to find joy in music, but when you have that level of success so early on there’s so much disappointment that comes because people change around you,” she also told Paper. “I was surrounded by a lot of male figures, where I constantly heard things you don’t need to hear. I was caught in all of that and learned a lot early on to create ‘Fighter.’ Even ‘Dirrty,’ like stop with your ideals of me being in this little bubble of being sexy, but not too sexy. Be sweet, but not too sweet. Get all these ideals off me. I’m 21, I’m going out to clubs and having fun with my dancers.”
