King Charles Hospitalized Amid Cancer Treatment

King Charles III was hospitalized amid his ongoing cancer treatment.

“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” a Thursday, March 27, statement from Buckingham Palace reads. “His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were, therefore, postponed.”

According to the palace, Charles, 76, has since returned to Clarence House to recuperate.

“As a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary program will also be rescheduled,” the statement concludes. “His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

King Charles Jokes ‘I’m Still Alive’ Amid News He’s Continuing Treatment

Charles confirmed he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024.

“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days,” the monarch said at the time. “As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”

He added, “It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations [that] support cancer patients and their families across the U.K. and wider world. My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”

Charles, who has been continuing with treatment this year, initially paused all public-facing duties to undergo treatment. He had his first engagement back in April 2024, visiting a local cancer facility in London with wife Queen Camilla.

“His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” the palace explained in a statement at the time. “His Majesty’s medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King’s continued recovery.”

King Charles Says He’s Not Feeling ‘Too Bad’ Amid Cancer Battle

According to the statement, all of Charles’ engagements would be “adapted where necessary to minimize any risks” to assist his continued recovery.

The following June, Camilla, 76, told attendees at a walkabout that the king was “doing fine” but wouldn’t “slow down.”

Charles has been battling cancer at the same time as his daughter-in-law Princess Kate Middleton, who was also diagnosed with an undisclosed type in early 2024. Kate, 43, underwent chemotherapy later that year and is now in remission.
