Joshua Jackson Jokes About Stealing Furniture From Set After House Fire

Joshua Jackson joked he might steal furniture from the Doctor Odyssey set for his new home following the California wildfires.

“I will say, the chairs and couches are the only time I’ve ever been on a set where the chairs and couches are actually comfortable,” Jackson, 46, said in an interview with People published on Thursday, March 27.

“And since I find myself not owning any furniture, by the time the show is over, it would be nice to be able to take a couple of those things to my new house eventually,” he quipped.

The Dawson’s Creek actor confirmed in January that his childhood home in Topanga, California, which he bought as an adult in 2001, had burned down.

Jackson said he had to find temporary accommodations for his 4-year-old daughter, Juno, whom he shares with estranged wife Jodie Turner-Smith. (Turner-Smith filed for divorce in October 2023.)

On March 5, Jackson opened up about the experience during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“Everybody’s safe,” he told Fallon. “It’s devastating. It’s an interesting thing to wake up one morning and all you own is a grungy sweatsuit and a pair of shoes.”

“When I went to go see it … I’m standing in front of this thing and it’s still literally smoking,” he recalled. “I’m looking at it and [I realized] this bears no relation to my home. This is just a pile of stuff that burned in a fire.”

However, Jackson added that he’s actually “excited” about the process of rebuilding.

“I’m excited to build a new house that doesn’t have all of Daddy’s history in it. It is for [my daughter] and I, so that when she grows up, every floorboard has her story in it … It’s not how I would have chosen to do a remodel, but, in some ways, I’m actually excited about the process,” he said.
