Noah Cyrus pulled from her familial experiences when it came to writing her new song “Don’t Put It All on Me.”
“I have always been the observer in our family, and Braison [Cyrus] wrote about how I tend to carry the weight of that on my shoulders,” Noah, 25, said in a statement about her brother, 30, cowriting the single.
The track, a duet with Fleet Foxes, dropped on Wednesday, March 19.

Noah and Braison are the two youngest siblings in the Cyrus family. Exes Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus also share daughters Brandi, 37, and Miley, 32, and son Trace, 36. (Brandi and Trace are Tish’s children from a past relationship, whom Billy Ray, now 63, adopted after he married Tish, now 57, in 1993.)
Billy Ray and Tish divorced in 2022 shortly before she moved on with now-husband Dominic Purcell. Tish’s romance soon allegedly sparked a rift with Noah as Us Weekly broke the news in March 2024 that Noah had been “seeing” Purcell, now 55, for eight months when Tish also started pursuing him. Neither Tish, Noah nor the Australian actor ever publicly addressed the apparent drama, though Noah was not present at her mom’s wedding in August 2023.
Noah and Tish have since slowly started mending fences.
“She just wants to focus on her life and move forward,” a source exclusively told Us in May 2024. “It’s been over a year ago at this point, and Noah has definitely moved on and she’s over it. At the end of the day, Tish will always be her mom and she doesn’t want to hold any resentment towards her.”
Nearly two years later, Trace claimed that many of the siblings had been estranged from Billy Ray. In an emotional Instagram note shared in January 2025, Trace claimed that the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer wasn’t healthy after a performance at a presidential inaugural ball.’
“Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away,” Trace, in part, wrote. “Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life and you haven’t even been there for her. That’s your baby girl. She deserves better. Somehow, just like me, she still idolizes you though. We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns.”

Both Billy Ray and Braison, who defended the Grammy winner’s apparent bill of health, denied the accusations. Noah, meanwhile, never publicly addressed being name-dropped in the public back-and-forth.
In “Don’t Put It All on Me,” Noah does appear to reference being caught in the middle of the drama.
“I can’t look away / When I’m watching you move in slow motion,” she sings. “All waves with no ocean / I’m swallowed by the sea / You couldn’t be honest with me / But I know you tried to / But beauty will blind you / Don’t put it all on me.”
She later adds, “Some days, we might fall apart / But we’re never broken / The words that were spoken / Mean nothing to me / By the look in your eye / I can tell that you no longer need me / The feeling is freeing / Don’t put it all on me.”
