Kate Hudson Calls Past Costar Matthew McConaughey 1 of Her ‘Great Loves’

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s relationship is a forever type of love.

“It was truly an amazing experience,” Hudson, 45, said of 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days during a recent interview with Vanity Fair. “Matthew just brought it, and he always does.”

Hudson noted that McConaughey, 55, goes on set “without ego” and brings “so much amazing energy” to all of his projects.

“With Matthew and I, is just a very similar type of joie de vivre. We love life. We lead with energy. Very competitive by nature, we’re competitive with each other,” she continued. “Very flirtatious. Not afraid to be flirtatious. I think there’s just a similar energy that somehow allowed us to be able to really connect on screen and fall in love.”

She continued, “You have great loves of your life and then, as actresses, I think you have great loves in your work. He’s one of my great loves.”

Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey: Why We ‘Kiss Nicely’ On Screen Together

Hudson said she “feels really lucky” to have experienced this type of onscreen chemistry with McConaughey.

Hudson and McConaughey famously starred as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry, respectively, in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. In the film, magazine writer Andie pitches an article titled “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” following a friend’s breakup. Ben becomes her focus but, unbeknownst to her, the advertising executive has a separate bet with his coworkers about making Andie fall in love with him. (The duo reunited on the big screen years later for 2008’s Fool’s Gold.)

While there’s nothing in the works, fans have hoped to see Hudson and McConaughey on screen together once again — something she’s fully aware of.

20 Years of Lessons! ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ Cast: Where Are They Now

Hudson was asked about the possibility of a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel during a July 2024 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

“I think [studios] are always thinking about that,” she said. “All that matters [to me] would be the script and if Matthew [McConaughey] and I were into the script.”

She added: “I think we’re both totally open, it has just never happened.”

Hudson even pitched the idea for a possible sequel during a 2020 interview with Elle.

“I’ve always thought about what Matthew and I’s characters would be now, if we were still together,” she said at the time. “We probably would have gotten married with kids. We’re probably miserable right now! I think Andie Anderson is ambitious, and she was wanting to go places, and she was sort of stuck in this job.”
