Billy Joel Postpones Tour Dates: ‘My Health Must Come First’

Billy Joel has postponed multiple of his upcoming tour dates after undergoing surgery.

“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” the musician, 75, wrote via an Instagram statement on Tuesday, March 11. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

Joel has rescheduled eight shows due to an undisclosed “medical condition.” The decision to push the dates back came so Joel could recover from “recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.” He is expected to make a full recovery.

The dates affected include his upcoming shows in Toronto, Detroit, Syracuse, New York, Milwaukee, Salt Lake City and Charlotte. The change in schedule also affected two of Joel’s upcoming international performances in Edinburgh and Liverpool. Everyone who had purchased a ticket for one of those shows will automatically be valid for the rescheduled date which has been pushed back to next year.

Billy Joel Loses Balance and Falls Down During Concert

Joel’s tour was scheduled to kick off in Toronto on March 15. The singer now is expected to start on July 5 with his Pittsburgh concert. All dates after that show have remained the same.

While Joel was set to hit the road later this year, he had already been performing. During a February concert, he took a nasty tumble while on stage at the Mohegan Sun in Montville, Connecticut.

As he sang his 1980 track “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” Joel attempted his classic microphone trick for the audience. Concertgoers said he was twirling the mic and lost his balance as he threw it toward the crowd. He subsequently fell on his back and his band rushed to his aid to help him back up.

Prior to his recent scheduling changes, Joel postponed his January show in Hollywood, Florida for an unspecified “medical procedure.” That concert has been rescheduled for November 2025.

Joel didn’t let the fall hold him back as he proceeded to announce his tour schedule, which includes stops across North America and the United Kingdom. He also has some pretty big guests joining him for several stops including Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks and Sting.

“I’m looking forward to playing these iconic stadiums this summer – each holds personal significance to me,” Joel said to Billboard in February. “There’s nothing like the energy of the crowds in New York, and sharing a stage with my friends, Rod Stewart, Sting and Stevie Nicks, whose music always inspires me, is extremely rewarding.”
