Nicole Kidman is getting candid about her early motherhood struggles.

The Oscar winner, 57, was already a mother of two when she and her husband, Keith Urban, welcomed their eldest daughter, Sunday, in 2008. In her TIME Women of the Year interview published on Thursday, February 20, Kidman revealed that she found herself unable to breastfeed after giving birth.

“I was so terrified, asking, ‘What just happened? Where’s my milk?’” she shared. “I remember standing naked in the shower, and my sister [Antonia Kidman] helped me. She was my source of strength. She’d had five children — she had the wisdom to pass on.”

Nicole and Urban, who wed in 2006, expanded their family again with the birth of daughter Faith, in 2010. Nicole is also mother to daughter Bella and son Connor, whom she adopted in 1992 and 1995, respectively, with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.

Nicole previously admitted to wishing she could have a bigger brood in an August 2021 interview with Marie Claire. “I wish I’d had more children, but I wasn’t given that choice,” she said. “I would’ve loved 10 kids. But that’s OK because I get to mother other children.”

At the time, Nicole revealed that she was also an aunt of six and a godmother of 12. “I love mothering, I love kids,” she gushed. “They’re quirky, funny and unfiltered. And then you get to see them grow and send them on their way.”

After staying mostly out of the spotlight throughout their childhood, Sunday and Faith made their red carpet debut alongside their famous parents at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, at which Nicole was honored with the event’s titular award. During her acceptance speech, she called Urban, 57, and her girls the “loves of my life.”

Sunday and Faith have continued to make more public appearances with their parents since the April 2024 outing. Sunday showed off her fashion sense and her resemblance to Nicole at a June 2024 Balenciaga fashion show and Omega’s Her Time event in Paris one month later. The 16-year-old even went on to make her runway debut during Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2025 Paris Fashion Week show in October 2024.

Faith, for her part, stepped out with Nicole at The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual Women in Entertainment Gala in December 2024. She looked all grown up in a white tweed jacket and skirt with black lining. She paired the set with sheer black tights and black Mary Jane heels. Nicole looked just as chic in a long-sleeved black midi dress with a collared light blue shirt underneath.

Nicole’s eldest two children have recently given fans glimpses into their private lives, as well. In a rare December 2024 Instagram Story snap, Bella took a selfie with a piece of her artwork that was displayed at the Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. “This lil guy made it to @imaginemuseum,” she captioned the pic.

Connor, meanwhile, reposted several 30th birthday tributes from friends via his Instagram Story last month. “Happy bday my dawg! Live it up @theconnorcruise,” one of his pals captioned a photo of them on a boat. Sharing the snap via his own profile, he wrote, “My guy!”
