Taylor Swift may be cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX, but Saquon Barkley thinks her fans should root for the other team.
“You said she was an Eagles fan? I mean, yeah. She was an Eagles fan her whole life, and I think the Swifites should come to our side then,” the Philadelphia Eagles running back, 27, declared during a Super Bowl press conference on Monday, February 3.
Swift, 35, has become one of the Chiefs’ biggest supporters since she began dating tight end Travis Kelce in 2023, but she grew up an Eagles fan in her hometown of West Reading, Pennsylvania, which is about an hour outside of Philly. She famously referenced the team in her song “Gold Rush” off her 2020 album Evermore, singing, “I see me padding across your wooden floors / With my Eagles T-shirt hanging from the door.”

She clarified the lyric was about the NFL team and not the band the Eagles during a May 2023 Eras Tour concert in the team’s home city. “I love the band the Eagles, but guys, like, come on. I’m from Philly. Of course, it’s the team,” she said via social media footage from the concert.
Travis Kelce Wants to Match Taylor Swift’s ‘Energy’ at Super Bowl 2025
During a November 2023 episode of his and brother Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Travis, 35, revealed he “persuaded” Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, to sport a Chiefs lanyard at an Eras Tour concert in Argentina. “What are we doing? You’re gonna let this man’s devilishly good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott? Ridiculous,” Jason, 37, joked in response.
However, Scott, 72, was later spotted wearing an Eagles lanyard along with Chiefs merch at Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024. Jason’s wife, Kylie Kelce, hinted that she gifted him the lanyard by replying to a social media comment about his accessory, writing, “Have you ever [seen] the grinch smile gif?”
Taylor was joined by Scott, her mother, Andrea Swift, and her brother, Austin Swift, at the 2024 Super Bowl, which saw the Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs are now hoping to become the first NFL team in history to win their third consecutive Super Bowl when they take on the Eagles in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9.
Jason confirmed that Taylor will be cheering on her boyfriend on Sunday in a recent interview with People, stating, “I think everybody’s coming. I mean, I don’t want to speak for everybody, but I think obviously, our whole family. I believe, obviously Trav and Taylor, and his family and his friends. I mean, Trav always travels, like, full.”
Travis, for his part, teased Scott’s attendance during Monday’s press conference when asked whether Taylor’s dad will be rooting for the Eagles or the Chiefs. “I’ll have to ask Scott himself, we haven’t had that convo yet,” he told reporters. “But I think he’ll be wearing red. I don’t know.”
While Jason — who played center for the Philadelphia Eagles — will be rooting for both teams, Joe DeCamara bet the former athlete $100 to hug Taylor and shout “Go Birds” if Barkley scores a touchdown on Sunday. “I’m just saying, let her know the hammer says, ‘Go birds!’ By the way, the whole city of Philadelphia says, ‘Go birds!’” DeCamara, 46, joked on the January 30 episode of the 94WIP Morning Show.
Jason replied by stating, “She grew up here. She knows that everybody’s cheering for this weekend. She’s obviously on the other side of it, but, yeah, no. It’s going to be fun. It’s gonna be fun being down there. …. I can’t wait until the game starts.”
