Lisa Vanderpump is breaking her silence on James Kennedy‘s domestic violence incident with Ally Lewber.
“I have spoken to James and to Ally at great length,” Vanderpump, 64, told Us Weekly exclusively at Jason Felts‘ Hollywood Virgin book launch party at The Abbey in West Hollywood on Wednesday, February 5, benefiting the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
Vanderpump pointed out that she would never “drop the ball on somebody that I’ve supported and has had a troubled time” simply because cameras aren’t currently rolling on Vanderpump Rules and referred to herself as a sort of “matriarch figure” for Kennedy, 33.
From our partners:
“The first [and] most important thing for me was [to know] what happened exactly,” she continued. “I didn’t need to just hear from James. I needed to hear from Ally, too, from her mouth what happened. She told me categorically he didn’t hurt her. He never hurts her. They were both drinking.”
James Kennedy’s Girlfriend Ally Breaks Silence on Domestic Violence Arrest
Kennedy and Lewber, 28, were “both being ridiculous and arguing,” which resulted in somebody calling the police. “She basically said, ‘Oh yes, take him away. It’ll teach him a lesson,’” Vanderpump told Us. “But no, he didn’t hurt her categorically. … She regrets what happened with how this blew up.”
Us confirmed in December 2024 that Kennedy was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge following an alleged incident with Lewber. Kennedy was released after posting a $20,000 bail and denied any wrongdoing, with his attorneys noting in a statement that “there were no injuries” sustained.
Lewber addressed the situation via her Instagram Story, thanking fans for sending “love and support” her way. “I’m OK and taking the time I need right now. I deeply appreciate all the kindness and respect for my privacy during this time,” she added.
Kennedy — who has been candid about his substance abuse through the years — has shared updates about his sobriety journey after his arrest. News broke last month that Kennedy will not be charged for the incident.
“I want to thank [the Burbank City Attorney’s Office] for conducting a thorough and professional review of the matter, involving my client,” Kennedy’s attorney Scott Leemon noted in a statement to Us. “Their diligent investigation confirmed what we have maintained from the beginning — there were no grounds for any charges to be filed against Mr. Kennedy. James is grateful to have this matter behind him and is looking forward to continuing to focus on his sobriety and his DJ career.”
Lewber later confirmed that she and Kennedy ended their two-year relationship, revealing via her Instagram Story on January 22 that she “was not physically hurt” during their argument. “We are not longer together, but I’ll always support James and wish him the best with his sobriety and healing. Thank you for your understanding,” she continued.
Inside James Kennedy and Ally Lewber’s Split: What Went Wrong?
Kennedy, for his part, has not directly addressed the pair’s split. A source exclusively told Us that Lewber “chose” to leave the relationship after seeing Kennedy’s “old” behavior return when he started drinking again.
Vanderpump also expressed concerns for Kennedy’s sobriety while speaking to Us on Wednesday. “I’ve been very honest and said, ‘James, you should never have another drop in your life,’” she said. “So was I concerned? Yes.”
According to Vanderpump, the exes are “still in contact” post-breakup. “A lot of people [say] it’s none of your business anymore, they’re not on [Vanderpump Rules],” she told Us. “But it is my business, because I brought him to the forefront. I’ve always cared very much.”
