7 Little Johnstons star Liz Johnston is opening up about being a mom with achondroplasia dwarfism and having an average-height child.
Johnston, 22, who became a parent for the first time after welcoming her daughter, Leighton, in November 2023 with her boyfriend, Brice Bolden, told Parade last month that she sometimes has strangers invade her “personal bubble.”
“We were just doing a little shopping, really just to get fresh air and get out of the house and take Leighton out of the house,” Johnston said while recalling a particularly stressful moment just three weeks after giving birth to Leighton.

She continued, “And we were just walking out of the parking lot, and somebody just wanted to run up and just come see before even saying, ‘Hey,’ or anything.”

It was a moment Johnston’s own mom warned her about.
“My mom kind of warned me that since we’re already LPs [little people] in the public eye, when you have your baby in a stroller or a carrier and they’re hidden, it’s definitely the curiosity that gets to people,” she told Parade.
Johnston said she set immediate boundaries after that moment involving her infant daughter, adding, “I did have to be like, ‘No. No, we don’t do that.’”
“That’s just been the most kind of hard part to deal with,” Johnston continued, “because just people who just don’t have that respect to like, hey, just come up and ask and not just bombard your personal bubble. That’s been the hardest thing.”
Johnston added that it will only get harder once her daughter is old enough to ask questions.
“It’s just her understanding, ‘Why [are] people looking at my mom like that? Why are people coming up?’” she explained.
“I think that’s going to be kind of a little bit of the struggle is when we have to explain to her that mommy’s different from you because of this reason,” Johnston told Parade. “But we will make sure that she grows up knowing that everybody in this world is different.”

In a separate interview with Access Hollywood, Johnston revealed that her 15 month old is now talking and very close to walking.
“We don’t even do formula,” Johnston said, shocked by how fast Leighton is growing up. “We eat the same food as mom and dad for the most part.”
As far as her first word, Johnston admits it was “dada,” adding that it makes sense since Leighton is “daddy’s girl” and has Bolden wrapped around her finger.
Johnston called the milestones “huge transitions” and “crazy,” but also “positive” and “good.”
