Buckingham Palace has announced that the King will go to hospital next week for a treatment for his benign prostate enlargement.
The palace said that the 75-year-old King wanted to share his diagnosis with the public to encourage other men who may have symptoms to get checked. “Like thousands of men every year, The King has got treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the statement said. The condition is common in men over 50 and is not usually a serious threat to health, according to the NHS website. However, it can cause problems with passing urine or emptying the bladder.
The condition does not mean the patient has a higher chance of getting prostate cancer. It is unclear what corrective procedure the King will have, but there are a few ways of dealing with it including surgery, lasers and even a steam treatment.

The announcement from Buckingham Palace was the second important piece of health news about senior royals to come out on Wednesday. The Princess of Wales is in hospital after having a successful abdominal surgery. Her procedure was planned and not cancer-related, Kensington Palace said. She will spend up to two weeks in hospital recovering.
Details about the health of senior royals are not often given, so it is surprising for two updates about two different figures to be given on the same day. Buckingham Palace does not usually comment on health conditions and gives limited information when it gives public updates.
