Kensington Palace has announced that the Princess of Wales is in hospital after having a successful abdominal surgery.
The 42-year-old Kate went to The London Clinic on Tuesday for the scheduled operation which is considered to be a normal one. She had the surgery successfully on Tuesday and the future queen is expected to stay in hospital for 10 to 14 days before going home.
The Palace did not reveal what Kate was treated for but said the condition was not cancerous. It also said that the Princess of Wales wants to say sorry for delaying upcoming events. “She is unlikely to come back to public duties until after Easter, based on the current medical advice,” a statement said.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said: “The Princess of Wales is grateful for the interest this statement will create. She hopes that the public will respect her wish to keep as much normality for her children as possible; and her desire to keep her personal medical information private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only give updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is important new information to share. The Princess of Wales wants to say sorry to all those affected by the fact that she has to delay her upcoming events. She hopes to resume as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
The princess is likely to take between two and three months to recover and is not expected to come back to public duties until after Easter based on current medical advice, the Palace said. William, the heir to the throne, will take care of their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princes Louis, while being with Kate, and he has delayed some events.
