Another day, another celebrity outfit inspired by the world’s current obsession with all things Nineties and Noughties nostalgia. We’ve seen the likes of low-waist jeans, tiny crop tops, exposed thongs and bedazzled just about anything dominate the catwalks for the past few seasons straight, while over on TikTok and Insta there’s no end to the cool-girl looks featuring butterfly clips, UGGs and Juicy tracksuits. Naturally, classic tunes from the musicians of yore have also come all the way back around… Think clubs (and our old skool Walkmans) pumping out everything from NSYNC and Christina Aguilera to Backstreet Boys and Britney. Not to mention *that* extremely well-timed reunion tour announcement that dominated headlines last week (*ahem* Girls Aloud *ahem).
All this to say that it’s only fitting that even the most elegant A-List celebrities would eventually jump on board the Y2K train. It’s absolutely everywhere! And practically unavoidable at this point. Still, we’ll admit we were rather surprised by Anne Hathaway being the latest gal to try the trend on for size—and even more so that her inspo wasn’t the latest high-fashion collection, but a 90s boyband heartthrob instead…
From our partners:
Honestly, we almost didn’t recognise her at first! We’re far more used to seeing Anne channeling her iconic Devil Wears Prada alter-ego Andy Sachs in some classic designer ensemble or a glorious gown on the red carpet. But we are *totally* feeling this new Y2K vibe. Making a case for head-to-toe white denim in winter, Anne stunned in baggy cargo pants (that are super on trend, btw) with a bedazzled rhinestone crop top and matching oversized jacket.
Plus, to make the whole ensemble all the more extra, she added a pair of killer high heels in metallic silver and the ubiquitous “no paps” giant sunglasses.
Is it just us, or is the whole look giving back-in-the-day Justin Timberlake?! Obsessed.
