- Jackman, 54, and Furness, 67, announced the end of their 27-year marriage on Friday
- The Australian couple’s union was ‘broken’ during Covid lockdown
Hugh Jackman was seen in public on Saturday for the first time since he and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness shocked their fans by announcing their separation after 27 years of marriage the day before.
The 54-year-old X-Men star was seen out and about in New York City early in the day as he took care of some errands around town.
Notably, the stage and screen star had already ditched his wedding ring, and he was spotted with a bare finger on his left hand.

The sighting comes after his estranged wife Deborra-Lee, who at 67 is his senior by 13 years, was pictured elsewhere in the Big Apple without her wedding ring just days earlier.
DailyMail.com confirmed on Friday that she and her 54-year-old husband were separating after nearly three decades together.
‘We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,’ the couple said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Friday.
‘Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.’
The former couple signed the statement as ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman,’ adding: ‘This is the sole statement either of us will make.’
The Australian couple share two children: Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.
Jackman briefly spoke with paparazzi in the city on Saturday and admitted he and his soon-to-be ex-wife are struggling with their split.
As he walked along a street he said, ‘It’s a difficult time,’ but declined to discuss the breakup further.
In a 2013 Huffington Post interview, the movie star discussed how his sexuality has been questioned throughout his career.
‘It’s, to me, not the most interesting thing about a person, anyway,’ he said at the time, adding, ‘I do get frustrated for Deb, cause I see Deb go, “Ah, this is just crazy!”‘
Furness was by his side during the conversation and added her two cents.
‘If he was gay, fine, he would say he’s gay. It’s annoying because it’s not true,’ she stressed.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in February of the same year, Hugh revealed that the constant chatter about it had begun getting to his wife.
‘Just recently, it bugs her,’ he shared with the outlet. ‘She goes: “It’s big. It’s everywhere!”‘
And just three years ago, Deborra-Lee addressed the gossip again while appearing on Anh’s Brush With Fame.
‘He’s been gay so many years. I was gay, too. You know when I did Shame? I was gay. They were shocked when I got married,’ she joked.
She went on to say that the unfounded claims were ‘just wrong.’
‘It’s like someone saying to Elton John, “He’s straight.” I’m sure he’d be pissed,’ she emphasized.
The pair previously stated that they had never spent more than two weeks apart since their 1996 wedding.
April marked the their 27th wedding anniversary, and the Wolverine star posted a gushing tribute to his wife on social media.
‘I love you Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 years! I love you so much,’ the actor gushed via Instagram.
‘Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage, and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.’
