What to Expect From Assassin’s Creed Mirage in 2023

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has only received one trailer, a few character reveals, and some teases so far. Players know they’ll take on the role of Basim, as he is trained by his mentor Roshan, and is trying to understand the nightmares he endures. He is seemingly haunted by a Djinn, with the development studio confirming that the popular theories that this was Loki were untrue. The newfound mystery around it bodes well for the story. The clearest expectation fans can have for the year is reinforced marketing over the coming months, given the popularity of the franchise and Ubisoft’s recent woes. It is going to want a win on the books as soon as it can, and hype around AC Mirage could be just that.

Outside Basim and Roshan, it’s been confirmed that there’s at least two major characters for Assassin’s Creed Mirage that haven’t been revealed yet, and unless Ubisoft is going for secrecy around them, fans can expect to see them crop up. Gameplay is pretty much a must too, as while its parkour, smoke bombs, and crowds have been shown off cinematically, seeing them in action could be a deciding factor for many AC fans. Beyond those elements, a story trailer or two highlighting certain assassinations is certainly possible, as while much of Basim’s story should remain in wraps, marketing still has to sell the game. The story, gameplay, and characters are all major factors that will likely get a spotlight ahead of launch.

Seeing as Assassin’s Creed Mirage is described as a love letter to the original game and the action-adventure oriented entries of the franchise, it’s likely that the marketing will tie these together in some ways, while making sure to establish Basim’s story as its own game. Perhaps the biggest question isn’t what will be shown, but when information will be shown. That depends on AC Mirage‘s release date. Currently, rumors point to an August release date, which means early/midsummer is when marketing will begin in earnest. A little bit before then isn’t impossible, though a Ubisoft Forward event could play home to it once again. Last year’s took place in September, but 2021’s took place in June. A Ubisoft Forward tied to E3 2023 makes sense, and given that’s normally where Assassin’s Creed games get announced, that would likely play to the height of its marketing.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Release Date

According to sources at Insider Gaming, Assassin’s Creed Mirage has already been delayed internally twice. Whether this is true or not is unlikely to ever be confirmed; that said, this claim suggests that it will release in August 2023, with a non-zero chance of another one pushing it to November. If the latter were to happen, it would be interesting if Assassin’s Creed Mirage released on November 14, 2023. This would be AC1‘s anniversary and a Tuesday, a common day for video game releases, during one of the busiest months of the year. If that happened (keeping in mind that this is mostly speculation), this would put AC Mirage smack dab in the middle of a time where everyone is shopping for new games. That could be good in terms of sales, but at the same time, there’s definitely a case to be made for it to get out before some of the heavy hitters of the year drop.

Either way, fans should reasonably expect a release sometime between August and November. As important an early win for Ubisoft is, a solid launch is a must—the opposite would be incredibly damaging. If this is the case too, fans shouldn’t expect AC Mirage‘s release date to be revealed in the first trailer of the year but perhaps instead E3.

Will Assassin’s Creed Mirage Get DLC?

Once it launches, there is certainly the question of whether AC Mirage will get DLC. It should be noted that AC Mirage’s pre-order bonuses and special editions include special cosmetics and even a unique quest, so the chances of those are high. However, the AC Mirage Collector’s Edition makes no mention of a season pass, so it’s uncertain if there will be story DLC. Right now, this is something that could go either way. For now, fans should just wait and see, but regardless of how DLC is done, 2023 could be Basim’s year. And many fans are hoping it delivers on the classic style it promises, with the future of the franchise being varied from hereon.
