When it comes to Shedeur Sanders and his 2025 NFL Draft drama, actor Terry Crews knows what the young quarterback is going through.
āIām that guy who thought I was going to get drafted high, and I was drafted in the 11th round,ā Crews, 56, exclusively told Us Weekly on Thursday, May 1, when discussing his partnership with Starbucks and the launch of their new Sunsera, which is available in grocery stores for purchase.
āThey donāt have 11 rounds now,ā Crews, who played as a linebacker and defensive end in the NFL from 1991 to 1996, clarified. āSo I know what Shedeur is going through. But hereās the thing: the draft is not the game. That is the most beautiful thing about it. Itās early.ā
From our partners:
Shedeur was the talk of this yearās NFL Draft ā the former University of Colorado, Boulder quarterback and son of football legend Deion Sanders was passed over in the first round (where he was expected to be selected). It wasnāt until the fifth round that Shedeur heard his name called after he was selected by the Cleveland Browns.
An old tweet sent by his father, Deion, then resurfaced, in which the former wide receiver criticized the Browns.
Sibling Rivalry! Football Players Who Have Brothers That Play in the NFL
āI love what the Browns have done this offseason, but if Iām a young QB, aināt no way Iām going to Cleveland,ā he wrote in a tweet posted in 2018, evoking Eli Manning, who famously refused to play for the team who drafted him in 2004.
Shedeur was also the center of a prank phone call controversy, when Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrichās son, Jax Ulbrich, called Shedeur while posing as a member of the New Orleans Saints, offering him a fake spot on the team.
āOn Friday night I made a tremendous mistake, Jax, 21, wrote via Instagram on April 27, apologizing for the prank call. āShedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. Iām so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish.ā (Both Jax and his father were fined by the NFL as a result of the prank.)
Crews told Us that in the midst of all the drama, itās easy to get lost in the headlines and pundit back-and-forth.
Iris Apatow Cheers on the L.A. Rams, More Celebrity Football Fans
āEverybody wants to say who they know and won and this and that, but theyāre always wrong,ā he explained. āAlways. You go back to the end of the season and they didnāt pick the winner. This is why you have to play the game. And Iām a fan of all athletes because itās a little bit like the talent show [Americaās Got Talent] ā the risk, the sacrifice, what has to be done, doing what you do at your best in front of millions of people. Itās the same thing. I just respect it so much.ā
He continued, āIāve been one of the few people whoāve been in the NFL to actually have this career. And again, my heart is full of gratitude, because a lot of guys who are athletes, they always think itās automatic that a movie career is supposed to happen and thatās very rare. Iām part of that rare breed, you know what I mean? And what can I say? Iām the most grateful man in Hollywood.ā
