Azuma Makoto Reimagines Glenmorangie 18 Years Old Single Malt Whisky With Wondrously Floral Limited-Edition Design

Glenmorangie’s signature 18 Year Old whisky has inspired a unique collaboration between the Scotch whisky maker and botanical sculptor, Azuma Makoto. Delighting in the floral notes of the single malt whisky, the Japanese artist created a design for a limited-edition bottle and a moving sculpture entitled Dancing Flowers of Glenmorangie.

The gift box for the limited edition showcases Azuma Makoto’s floral masterpiece which celebrates the fragrant bouquet of the whisky with its notes of jasmine, geranium and narcissus.

Azuma Makoto created the artwork in his Tokyo studio after assembling almost a hundred different blooms to reimagine the whisky through the language of flowers. He then drifted the petals like confetti over the work as it was photographed and filmed, creating the moving masterpiece, Dancing Flowers of Glenmorangie.

The idea behind this special edition’s stunning design materialized after Azuma Makoto tasted the Glenmorangie 18 Years Old for the first time with Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation. Inspired by the wondrous floral palate of the whisky – honeysuckle, sweet pea, jasmine and geranium entwined with dried fruits and honey – Azuma Makoto decided to translate the single malt’s flavours into flowers, creating a design as delightful as the whisky that inspired him.

Dreamed up by the boundless imagination of its creators, Glenmorangie 18 Years Old is one of the Scotch whisky maker’s best loved single malts. Its dazzling, luminous tastes are first created from crafting their delicate, fruity spirit in stills as tall as a giraffe which allow more space for taste and aroma. The spirit is then carefully aged in bourbon casks for 15 years, with a portion transferred into Oloroso sherry casks for 3 more years before reuniting the liquid to create the resulting sweet, floral lushness of Glenmorangie 18 Years Old.
